My Special Place in Memphis

There is a street very full of life in downtown Memphis that fascinates me. On Saturday night this street is full of people. This street is near the FedEx Building in the center of downtown. There are many clubs. It is very interesting to visit this place because you can forget many things. My first time to go to this place, I was excited, and I also was surprised by the mass. There are hundreds of young boys and girls who parade like that on this street. It is the warmest place of Memphis.

This place is special for me because as soon as I went there I was completely fascinated. the crowd was magnificently good to look, and the musical sound took all the street. Besides somebody made athletics games to make money. It is a place to be visited. The number of people is impressive. In my opinion, the places like this are not many even in the USA. My cousin with whom I went was also impressed by the crowd. She never saw a similar thing while she lives in the United States of America since ten years ago. Anything that can impress me is special, so it was a new discovery for me. That is why this place is special for me.

"The Baseball Stadium" by Mya

My favorite place here is the baseball stadium. It is on Whitten Rd. I go there almost every Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 9 or 10:00 p.m. I go there to look at the Dominican people play baseball. Every Sunday the Dominican poeple meet there. It is very fun. I went to another place, but that is the most fun for me. I met many Domonican people there. The poeple there are very friendly and kind. I want to go with my classmates there one day.

I like this place because it is the only place here where I can meet with Dominican people. It is the most similar to my country here in Memphis. I feel good when I`m there. Every Sunday we do different things there like drink beer, BBQ, etc. A Dominican woman some Sundays sells patelitos.It is a Dominican snack. We enjoy that. At 9 or 10:00 p.m. when the game is finish everybody sits and makes histories of my country. Everybody counts your past histories. It is very funny. Everybody there is graceful. I like this place very much.

My special place is Starbucks Cafe. It is on Poplar Avenue. It is next to the Poplar Plaza. It is very close to my house. I usually go to Starbucks Cafe in the evening. I go there with my brother and his friends. When we go there, we sit outside. We drink coffee or tea. We talk about everything. A man sometimes comes there with his dog, and he shows us his dog. We watch them.

Starbucks is my special place here because if I am bored in my house, I can go there. I can drink a white chocolate mocha. I like it very much. I don't have a car, so usually I can't go somewhere alone. Starbucks is very close to my house, so I can go there alone, and I can walk. When I came here for the first time, my brother and I went there, and I was happy. Because I was very bored, and I felt bad in airplane.

I'll talk about my special place in Memphis. My special place is Liberty Bowl Stadium. This stadium is near the University of Memphis. I went there on Saturday, September 06, 2008. That day was football match of Tigers. And I went with my friends. When I saw the stadium, I thought it's very big. And it's similar to soccer stadium I saw in Korea. And when I saw inside, it was bigger than outside. The match started, and I watched the match.

This stadium is my first place I saw football match in America. And this place is also my first time I hang out with friends in America. In that time, I was very happy. I met many American people. And I heard much English. And I felt American lifestyle. It was a new experience to me. So this stadium is a special place to me. If I have a chance, I want to go there again. But I also have other special places. I really want to know another special place.

I think special place for me and my family is one mall in Germantown because there are many places for shopping and relaxation. And the must thing is carnival because my daughter loves to ride the rides. And I eat something like pizza, ice cream, and drink some caffe. I like to strolling in the mall. This mall is big. In my country I have many choises for fun times and leisure, and I know which place is good for what time. But for this city I dont have many choise, and I think that this mall is just my favorite location and I can do something in this spot at the same time.

My favorit place is in the Germentown. I go there one time aweek. Becaus it is far from my house. Also I have to be attended by my husband becaus I can not take care my kid alone. Sometimes I go there just for walking and looking for some store and then I drink some favorite coffee. When I am looking for something and I can not find it, this make me constrained to speak English. I think this is good practicing that can help me learn English. Finally in my opinion in this city this place is the best way to pass my time, and for leisure time.

My special place is the Memphis Zoo. One month ago I went with my family of Memphis (my uncle, my aunt and my three cousins). This day we decided to go to this place because my uncle wanted that I see it. He told me that the Memphis Zoo is more beautiful than Cali Zoo in Colombia. He talked about this place very well and he told me also that this place is the biggest zoo in Tennessee. When we went I thought that all was true. The idea in that moment was to go and eat there. My aunt made food so everyone began to look at each part of zoo. I think that seeing several animals is so pretty and fantastic, and that we can see them very close is unbelievable.

This place is special for me because I found many animals that are out of their natural habit, although the organization of the zoo made an adequate place for them. The polar bear is an example of this. It was amazing for me to be able to see the polar bear because this animal is fascinating but is important to mention that there are many animals that are living in the same condition. However we have to emphasize the hard work of every worker and every zookeeper that takes care of every animal. The zoo is a great place to visit. The zoo is to enjoy and for every person to admire, to have fun and to learn and to get information about all the kind of different animals.

I will introduce my special place. The Grove is the name of it. It's on Germantown and Trinity Street. I've lived there about 2 months with my husband.

It has two pools, a tennis court, a racquetball court, a gym, two laundries and a volleyball court. I can use everything. I often use the gym if I have the time. Usually I run on the running machine for 1 hour and then I do light exercise for 20 minutes. Every Friday I launder our clothes in the laundry. And my husband seldom plays tennis on the tennis court.

I like to stay in my house with my husband, so when I stay there I feel so comfortable and happy, but when he goes to work I am gloomy, uncomfortable and a little nervous.

Korean people usually live with family till they get married, so I lived with my families about 28 years. It was my parents' house not mine, so this apartment is my first house.

After I arrived in Memphis, we looked for our house, but it was not easy. When I looked at the Grove I think it was perfect for us. It was not big, and I felt so comfortable.

We furnished a room. When we bought that, it was very hard for us because we made a careful comparison of furniture and saw which was the better, and we wandered from place to place. We cleaned and arranged our house.

However I suffered from insomnia before, but now I can sleep very well. I think I found a sure means of living and I can do everything with my husband. We don't have enough time, so we couldn't go a lot of places. We usually stay in my house, so I want to choose my special place that is my house the Grove. I come in my house, I feel so happy and cozy, and always my husband is there.

My special place is University of Memphis. University of Memphis is located in Memphis, and it offers good education for students, so University of Memphis is Tennessee's most popular university. University of Memphis symbol is 'TIGERS'. This nickname was born in 1914. University of Memphis has great buildings, and beautiful campus, and wonderful sports teams. Also many students exercise after school at the gym. Gym is very nice place for exercise. There are many exercises mechanism, and swiming pool. When I arrived in Memphis I first visited the University of Memphis. When I first saw University of Memphis I realized that University of Memphis was the best university I was looking for.

University of Memphis has a beautiful campus, and good education environment, and great professors, so I think University of Memphis is my special place. I love gym most of all. U of M gym is so fantastic. It is all free for only students. I like sauna, and table tennis best of all. My second favorite place is library in U of M. There are a number of books to read, and many computers, and cubicles. I like U of M everything. This place is tops in value.

"Shelby Farms" by Hyun

A Special Place in Memphis: Shelby Farms

Shelby Farms is near Cordova. I live in Germantown, so I can go there in about 15 minutes. I often go to the park near my home for jogging or walking. I sometimes go to the Shelby Farms with my friend or sister. I go to the Shelby Farms when I want to be quiet or I feel depressed. I start from my home after I prepare old newspapers. I spread out newspapers in the shade of a tree when I arrive there, and I lie down on the newspapers and look at the blue sky. The wind blows on my face, and leaves fall off the tree, and I deeply breathe fresh air. Sometimes big acorns fall off the tree. If I lie still for a while, I refresh myself. It seems to be the best gift that nature gives to me. Nature is the best physician.

I like Shelby Farms because it is different from other parks. An ordinary park has flat grass and few trees, and is near a roadway. Shelby Farms has small ponds, lake, buffalo, hill, forest and ducks in the lake. I like to be able to see various sightings. There are grazing buffalo on the plain. Some people are feeding ducks, and enjoying leisure time with family. My feeling becomes better through the people. I can enjoy my own time if I want. Shelby Farms is harmonious between nature and human, and these things give to me a peace. These things make Shelby Farms special.
